Silk care, made simple
Washed properly, a mulberry silk pillowcase lasts for years. Here's the routine we recommend.
1. Wash gently
By hand in water at 30 °C maximum, or in the machine on a delicate cycle at 30 °C. Use a pH-neutral detergent, without enzymes or bleach, and no fabric softener: it weighs the fibre down.
2. Protect the fabric
Put the pillowcase, mask or scrunchies in a laundry bag. Zips and hooks on other clothes are what damage silk the most.
3. Dry flat
No tumble dryer. Lay the silk flat on a towel, out of direct sunlight, and let it air-dry. It dries quickly.
4. Store it dry
Fold the silk once dry and store it away from light. If you need to iron it, do so at a very low temperature, on the reverse side.
How often should I wash it?
Like your usual bed linen, about once a week. Having two pillowcases means you always have a clean one while the other dries.
A stain?
Gently dab with a damp cloth and a little mild detergent, without rubbing, then rinse in cold water.
